Pastor Larry A. Poe is the son of Rev. Edgar & Elsie
Poe. His father, Edgar Allen Poe, (not the poet) was an ordained
Wesleyan Minister. Edgar was an evangelist for several years before
serving as pastor in Lafayette, Terre Haute, New Albany, and Evansville,
Indiana. It was as a boy growing up in a preacher's home that Larry
learned about the wonderful Grace of God and accepted the free gift of
eternal life.
After graduating from New Albany High School in 1966,
Larry attended the University of Evansville where he received his
Bachelor of Arts degree in the spring of 1970. Four years later in 1974,
he received his Masters degree from Indiana University. From the fall of
1970 to 1979, Larry taught English, coached football and
cross-country at New Albany High School. It was the in the fall of 1979
that the Lord called him into the ministry. After serving in a Christian
School from 1979 to 1982, Larry joined his brother in starting Faith
Community Church. From the spring of 1983 until the winter of 1997, he
served as the associate pastor and music minister of Faith. In May of
1998 Faith Community Church called him to be Senior Pastor.
Larry has a wonderful wife, Teresa, who has a passion
for ministry especially in missions. He is also the proud father of
three children who are all married and serving the Lord.
Larry said that his greatest passion is to be a humble
servant of Jesus Christ and get to know his Savior and Lord in a greater
way each day. It was during 1998 that God began a work in his life that
is continuing to take Faith on a journey of experiencing and knowing
God. To God be all the glory and praise!
Matthew 9:11-12 When the Pharisees saw this, they
asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and
`sinners'?" On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need
a doctor, but the sick.
Pastor Larry says, "As
a church we must continue practicing the following:
-
Pray for people who need God!
-
Invite people who need God!
-
Love people who need God!
-
Lead people who need God by example!
As God leads us forward and we do this, we will become
the church He has called us to be."
